Most of you must have heard about HTML which is one of the popular web designing techniques. But XHTML is an enhanced and much composed version of HTML. This is the reason why most of the web designers prefer to use it in their regular ventures. In order to understand the techniques and methodologies followed in XHTML, you need to understand the basics of HTML as XHTML is nothing but an advanced version of HTML. XHTML stands for Extensible Hyper Text Markup Language. Often it is considered to be identical with the HTML 4.01. It aids the designers, creates cleaner layouts for the various web pages and this is the secret to attract the web visits.
Most of the recent browsers support the XHTML format as this is a popular choice today. Moreover this particular format is compatible with the HTML 4.01 version. The reason behind better designing with XHTML is that the codes created here should be absolutely error-free for acceptance. Instead of just displaying the data, XHTML describes it clearly. The browsers for both computer and mobile phones accept XHTML only because of its error-free version.
XHTML is a case sensitive designing language. It only accepts the tags which are in lower case. There is a “find and replace” option available with any tool and with the help of this function you can replace the upper cases with the lower ones and create the codes easily. You cannot use the empty tags in XHTML and use the same option to swap these tags. The W3C DTD validators find these errors and correct them for getting the page accepted. Before the validation of an XHTML file, the correct DTD should be added to it.
There are various versions of XHTML available for convenience of the web developers. The XHTML 1.0 version is almost equivalent to the HTML 4.01 version. There are frameset and transitional versions available for the XHTML which are also similar to that of the HTML 4.01. The XHTML basic 1.0 version is used and recommended for mobile browsers in order to provide the users with better browsing experience. XHTML 1.2 is the accessible form of XHTML. Another user friendly version of this tool is XHTML 2.0.
There are various features that can be added to a web page using the XHTML technique of web designing. You can combine several adjacent links and images with the help of XHTML from the same source. You can also include the text alternatives to the images and create an attractive title using the title element function. Including the submit buttons become easier with the XHTML language. You can create the navigation in such a manner that the visitors find it easy to land up in various web pages. You can also put the links in various categories with the help of XHTML language.
The techniques of XHTML states that the pages should be validated and the documents should be well organized in order to create a good website that is attractive and elegant.
